SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University men's hockey team defeated St. Olaf 2-1 at TRIA Rink on Saturday, marking their first weekend sweep of St. Olaf since the 2016-17 season.
The Pipers improve to 5-10, 4-4 MIAC, while the Oles fall to 6-6-1, 2-4-0 MIAC.

The first period opened with penalties for roughing called on
Jordon Halverson and Tyler Cooper at 00:24, leading to a power play situation for both teams. St. Olaf's Jonathan Panisa scored the only goal of the frame at 4:20, assisted by Jonathan Young. The Oles maintained offensive pressure with multiple shots, but
Maximillian Haselbacher of Hamline made several key saves. Despite a power play opportunity for the Pipers following an interference penalty on Jonathan Young at 11:57, they failed to capitalize, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Oles at the end of the period.
The second frame began with St. Olaf gaining early control, winning the initial faceoffs and benefiting from a power play after a penalty on Hamline's
Kyle Mortenson for tripping at 1:29. Despite multiple shot attempts by the Oles, including two misses by Jonathan Panisa, Hamline's
Maximillian Haselbacher made several key saves to keep the score unchanged. The Pipers broke the deadlock at 16:06 with a goal by
Derek Becklin, assisted by
Brock Carls and Tommy Carls, leveling the score to 1-1. Hamline took the lead at 17:39 when
Tanner Rausch scored the game-winning tally, assisted by
Jonah Mortenson and Charles Levis, securing a 2-1 advantage by the end of the period.
In the third period, both Hamline and St. Olaf struggled to convert their opportunities into goals, with numerous shots either missing the target or being saved.
Maximillian Haselbacher was particularly active early on, making key saves against the Oles' Adam Johnson and Connor Kalthoff. Hamline's offense, led by
Per Waage and
Will Matzke, also faced challenges as several attempts were saved by the Oles' Matthew Malin. As the period progressed, both teams continued to see their shots blocked or go wide, with
Kyle Mortenson of Hamline and Panayioti Efraimidis of St. Olaf each hitting the post late in the period. Despite pulling their goalie for an extra attacker with 1:27 remaining, the Oles could not find an equalizer, and the game concluded with Hamline securing a 2-1 victory.
Tanner Rausch stood out for the Pipers with a game-winning goal among his contributions, marking a key highlight in his performance.
Derek Becklin also made a significant impact with one goal, further underscoring his offensive contributions.
Cal Levis III was notable for his faceoff success, achieving a 60 percent win rate. Haselbacher finished with 26 saves in net for the Pipers.
Jonathan Panisa led the Oles with one goal and a perfect faceoff win percentage of 100 percent, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Pavel Karasek demonstrated exceptional skill in the faceoff circle as well, maintaining a win percentage of 73 percent. In goal, Matthew Malin recorded 20 saves, although the team fell short with a 5-4 loss. St. Olaf out shot Hamline 27-22.
