Minneapolis, Minn. — The Hamline men's soccer team faced 10th-ranked Augsburg en route to a narrow 1-0 defeat on the road.
In a competitive defensive battle, the Pipers (now 9-2-3 overall, 1-2-2 MIAC) held the nationally-ranked Auggies scoreless for over 67 minutes, thanks in large part to a solid performance from goalkeeper
Alec Setterberg, who finished the night with seven total saves, facing 15 total shots, including eight on goal.
The first half found Augsburg out-shooting Hamline 8-3, but Maley was a commanding presence, recording three saves in the opening frame to keep the score knotted at 0-0 heading into the intermission.
The Auggies finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when Zach Heusinkveld found the back of the net to claim the game's only goal.
Despite the one-goal deficit, Hamline continued to push for the equalizer late in the contest.
Augustine Feika tested the Augsburg keeper with a shot on target in the 85th minute, but Augsburg was able to hold on to the lead.
Offensively, the Pipers registered seven total shots, with four on goal.
Augustine Feika led the offensive charge with two shots on frame, while
Johanso Camacho also contributed two shots. Hamline also earned the game's only corner kick.
The Pipers are back in action on October 15 when they return to Pat Paterson Field to face Gustavus.
