Gustavus 2nd Half Goal Pushes Them Past Pipers In Close Game

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline was edged 1-0 by Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday at Pat Paterson Field, with the decisive goal coming in the second half despite Hamline's 12 total shots.

 
Alec Setterberg recorded five saves during the match, facing a total of 16 shots. Johanso Camacho led the team with four shots, including two on target. Chris Corrales managed two shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Clarence Weah also added two shots in the game.

 
The first half began with Hamline applying early pressure, as Dane Hanks attempted a shot that went wide in the third minute. The Pipers' defense, led by goalkeeper Setterberg, held strong, saving multiple attempts from Gustavus Adolphus, including key saves at the 31st and 38th minutes. Despite opportunities, Hamline could not find the back of the net.

 
The half saw both teams exchanging chances, with Camacho testing the Gustavus Adolphus goalkeeper in the 14th minute. Setterberg continued to be a crucial presence for Hamline, making another significant save as the half drew to a close. The teams went into halftime scoreless, maintaining a 0-0 deadlock.

 
The second half began with momentum on Hamline's side as Weah took an early shot in the 46th minute, although it sailed just wide. The Pipers continued to apply pressure with multiple corner kicks and shots, including a close attempt from Corrales that hit the woodwork in the 69th minute. Despite several efforts to break through, Hamline was unable to convert.

 
Gustavus Adolphus capitalized on a chance in the 84th minute when Joe Flory scored with assists from Diego Paulin and Will Clark, putting them ahead 1-0. Hamline maintained offensive efforts but faced a setback with a red card issued to Alexander Taylor in the 86th minute. The half concluded with Hamline unable to equalize, closing the match trailing 1-0.

 
The Pipers will be back in action this Saturday, October 18 on the road in Arden Hills, Minn. to take on Bethel at 1 PM.
