ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline was defeated by Macalester College, 4-1, on Saturday at Pat Paterson Field.
Chris Palma scored the only goal for the Pipers, converting his sole shot into a scoring effort.
Alec Setterberg, in goal, recorded five saves, facing 18 shots throughout the match.
Clarence Weah contributed by having one shot on goal, while
Alexander Taylor took one shot in the encounter.
The first half began with Hamline's Setterberg in goal, showcasing strong defensive skills early on. Setterberg made crucial saves against Macalester's attempts, including a stop on Charles Wriedt's shot in the opening minutes. The Pipers tried to capitalize on a corner kick in the 11th minute, but Taylor's subsequent shot missed to the left.
Macalester took the lead in the 36th minute with a goal by Kasdan Blattman. Shortly after, a penalty kick by Milan Shah extended their advantage to 2-0. Despite efforts to regain momentum, Hamline entered halftime trailing, with the score at 2-0.
The second half began with Macalester maintaining pressure through a series of corner kicks and attempts on goal. The Pipers' Setterberg made a crucial save in the 48th minute, deflecting a shot from Ondieki Maina. Despite these defensive efforts, Macalester extended their lead with a goal by Zach Liptzin in the 59th minute, assisted by Maina.
Hamline responded with offensive efforts, including a shot by Weah in the 55th minute that was saved by Macalester's Drew Moseman.
Johanso Camacho also attempted a goal shortly after but missed high. Macalester added another goal in the 80th minute through Gaven Johnson, increasing their advantage.
In the closing minutes, the Pipers' Palma found the back of the net in the 89th minute to put Hamline on the scoreboard.
The Pipers play Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday, October 28 in Mankato, Minnesota with kick off at 7 PM.
