ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (0-4-0, 0-2-0) fell to Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (4-1-1, 2-0-0), 7–2, at home. Despite outshooting their opponents 29–24, the Pipers could not overcome the early four-goal deficit established by Saint Mary's in the first period.
The game commenced with both teams exchanging early opportunities, but Saint Mary's quickly took control. Jack Campion opened the scoring at 12:49, assisted by Joona Juntunen and Carter Newpower. Just over a minute later, Tyler Lafferty extended the lead to 2-0 with an assist from Colin Tushie. Campion netted his second goal of the period at 16:08, again aided by Newpower and Juntunen, marking a decisive momentum shift. Paden Hicks capped off the period with an unassisted goal at 17:21, giving Saint Mary's a commanding 4-0 lead at intermission.
Saint Mary's extended their lead early in the second period with a goal from Ryan Berglund at 18:27, assisted by Tushie, bringing the score to 5–0. Hamline responded at 5:59 when
Dominic Thomas found the back of the net, assisted by
Tristen May-Robinson and
Kyle Mortenson, narrowing the deficit to 5–1. However, Saint Mary's quickly regained a five-goal advantage as Adler Johnston scored at 5:16 with assists from Blake Green and Luc Cernohous, setting the score at 6–1. Both teams exchanged penalties and power play opportunities, but neither side capitalized further before the period concluded.
Saint Mary's began the third period with a strong faceoff presence, winning multiple draws early on. The Pipers' May-Robinson found the net at 10:23, narrowing the gap to 6-2, assisted by
Will Matzke. However, Saint Mary's quickly responded with Newpower scoring at 12:51, extending their lead to 7-2 with assists from Juntunen and Campion. Hamline was unable to capitalize on a power play opportunity late in the period, and the game concluded with Saint Mary's maintaining a five-goal advantage.
May-Robinson recorded a goal and an assist, finishing with two points and a plus-minus of +2. Thomas found the back of the net once.
Tyler Jordan excelled in faceoffs, winning seven out of 11.
The Pipers will face off against Bethel in a home and home series November 21st and 22nd, starting on the road on Friday in Blaine, Minn. for a 7 PM puck drop.
