Pipers Lead at Half But Ultimately Fall to Gustavus 70-65

SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Pipers fell to Gustavus Adolphus 70-65 in a closely contested MIAC matchup on Wednesday night. Despite leading by 13 points at halftime, the Pipers [5-2, 0-1 MIAC] could not hold off a second-half comeback by Gustavus Adolphus [5-1, 1-0 MIAC].

The game opened with Hamline establishing an early lead, highlighted by Dominic Dosmann's layup at the 19:28 mark. The Pipers extended their lead to 11-2 following a dunk by Brendan Ebel. Gustavus Adolphus called a timeout at 16:52 after Raoul Vaidya's successful layup increased Hamline's advantage to 11 points. Despite a late rally by Gustavus Adolphus, featuring a three-pointer from Eli Wolff at 43 seconds remaining, the Pipers maintained control and closed the half with a 39-26 lead, capped by a three-pointer from Ebel with 18 seconds left.

In the second half, Gustavus Adolphus overcame a significant deficit to secure a 70-65 victory over Hamline. Dosmann initiated the scoring with a layup at 19:02, extending their lead. However, Gustavus Adolphus's Jake Schmitt responded with a 3-pointer at 18:00, sparking the home team's comeback. Myles Barnette was instrumental in the closing minutes, converting crucial free throws with 11 seconds remaining to solidify Gustavus Adolphus's win. Despite Vaidya's efforts for Hamline, including a late layup at the five-second mark, the visiting team fell short.

Vaidya scored 22 points, converting 6 of 7 free throws, and added five rebounds. Dane DeDominces collected 13 rebounds and contributed two blocks. Dosmann posted 10 points and two blocks, making 5 of 6 field goals. Ethan Wall-Atim added nine points and nine rebounds in the game.

The Pipers will be back in action this Saturday, December 6 at home against Macalester, with tipoff scheduled for 3 PM.
