FOND DU LAC, WIS.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team embarked on their first ever match against Marian (Wis.) in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Tuesday. The Pipers picked up their first win of the 2025 season by a 10-9 score over the Sabres.
Hamline improves to 1-4, while Marian falls to 3-5.

The opening quarter resulted in 14 shots for the Pipers. Four goals came of it behind a balanced offensive attack courtesy of Avery Wilson, Lauren Moorhouse, Reagan Zywicki, and Emma Collins. Hamline never trailed throughout the first 15:00 of play, where they led 4-3.Â
Both teams combined for just eight shots in the second quarter. Each team netted one goal in the period, which included Nicole Phillips' tally with 2:37 remaining in the second quarter that gave the Pipers a 5-4 halftime lead.
The opening stages of the third quarter belonged to Marian, who took their first lead of the game at 6-5 with 11:19 on the clock thanks to goals from Nicole Station and Chloe Yanez. The Sabres didn't trail again until the fourth quarter, when Zywicki's third goal of the contest with 13:27 left in the game put Hamline in front for good at 8-7. This ignited a Hamline 3-0 run to kick off the fourth quarter. Phillips and Moorhouse also had goals in the run that gave them their largest cushion of the contest at 10-7 with 5:42 on the clock.Â
The Sabres responded with three shots for the remainder of the game. Two of them were goals from Emma Heide and Nicole Stachon that narrowed their deficit to 10-9 with 3:29 left. The Pipers controlled the possession battle from that point to secure a narrow 10-9 win.
Zywicki finished the game with a hat trick, seven shots, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Collins, Phillips, and Moorhouse each had two goals, while Avery Wilson rounded out the multi-point Pipers with one goal and two assists on a game-high nine shots. Moorhouse also had a team-best five ground balls. Collins and Phillips each added an assist to their stat line.
Hamline outshot Marian 32-23 while also winning the ground ball (33-27) and draw control (12-11) battles.
Stachon paced the Sabres with four goals and four caused turnovers.Â
Lola Brouwer made 11 stops in net for the Pipers, while Emma Johnson matched that performance between the pipes for the Sabres.
Hamline will travel to Concordia (Wis.) for a non-conference game on Friday, March 21 at 4 p.m.
