WINONA, MINN.—For the first time since February 11, 2006, the Hamline University women's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's (Minn.) as they prevailed on the road by a 5-4 decision on Saturday. Not only was this Hamline's first victory over Saint Mary's (Minn) in over 19 seasons, it was their first MIAC win since April 14, 2019, when they defeated Concordia (Minn.) 6-3.Â
"Unbelievably proud of this group to get us our first conference win in years," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones.Â
The Pipers improve to 8-5, 1-3 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 11-7, 2-6 MIAC.
Hamline 5, Saint Mary's (Minn.) 4
The Pipers exited doubles with a 2-1 lead behind wins from Elanna Kohner/Christine Muller 8-5 at No. 2, and Emily Dreger/Chloe Reyes 8-6 at No. 3.
The top half of Hamline's singles lineup was highlighted by Cora Andersen's 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 2. Muller was victorious 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4, while Dreger came through 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Pipers will host Macalester at Holt Courts at Jeff Green & Family Tennis Center on Sunday, April 6.
