Pipers Run Past Cardinals on the Road

WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University men's tennis team prevailed on the road by a 7-2 decision over Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday.

The Pipers improve to 4-7, 1-3 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 7-11, 0-7 MIAC.

"Solid win for the men today at Winona Tennis Center," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "Setts came back to win a nail biter at No. 1 singles and Cooper Johnson clinched the match. Johnson/Matthew George had a terrific comeback fighting off six match points at No. 3 doubles to stake us to a 3-0 lead."

Hamline 7, Saint Mary's (Minn.) 2

The Pipers swept doubles courtesy of an 8-3 victory from Rumeal Setts/Tyler Rousslang at No. 1, an 8-2 triumph from Elijah Krause/Sam Siegel at No. 2, and an 8-7 win from Cooper Johnson/Matthew George at No. 3.

The top four singles matches belonged to Hamline. Setts won a tiebreaker at No. 1 by a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 decision. Rousslang dominated 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, followed by a 7-5, 6-1 triumph from Cooper Johnson at No. 3. The No. 4 slot resulted in a 7-5, 6-3 domination from Brendon Sebring. 

The Pipers will host Saint John's at Holt Courts at Jeff Green & Family Tennis Center on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m.
