Pipers Drop a 1-0 Decision to Blue Devils in 2025 Season Opener

MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Hamline University women's soccer team fell to UW-Stout 1-0 in Menomonie, Wisconsin on Friday night.

The Pipers fall to 0-1-1, while the Blue Devils improve to 1-0-0.

UW-Stout 1, Hamline 0

The first half ended scoreless, with the Blue Devils applying considerable offensive pressure. Pipers goalkeeper Maddox Fergus made five crucial saves, including shots from Sami Moseng, Berklee Reelfs, and Anna Odisho. Despite a number of opportunities, neither team was able to convert their chances into goals by the end of the half.

The second half began with both teams making strategic plays, but it was UW-Stout's persistent offensive efforts that eventually paid off. Tessa Pagel scored the sole goal of the match in the 74th minute, assisted by Emma Olson, giving the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. Despite Hamline's defensive efforts, including multiple saves by goalkeeper Isabella Jensen, Stout maintained pressure with several attempts on goal, totaling six shots saved throughout the half. Hamline attempted to level the score with shots and corner kicks but was unable to breach the Blue Devil defense.

Maddox Fergus recorded six saves in the first half without conceding any goals for the Pipers. In the second half, Isabella Jensen added seven more stops, allowing just one goal. Alexis Geary and Ellie Nhean each contributed with a shot, with Geary's being on target.

Tessa Pagel led the Blue Devils with a game-winning goal and had the team's only two shots on goal. Anna Odisho was active offensively, recording a team-high of six shots with five on target. Emma Olson contributed with an assist. Kristen Silenzi secured a shutout in goal, making one save and facing two shots to ensure the team's victory.

The Pipers will host Coe at Pat Paterson Field on Sunday, August 31 at 11 a.m.
