ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (8-1-2, 1-1-1) and Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (2-5-3, 0-2-1) played to a 1-1 draw at Paterson Field on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, both teams found the net in the second half, with the Pipers' goal coming from a team effort in the 79th minute.
Clarence Weah scored the only goal for the Pipers, converting his single shot into a goal. Drew Axel contributed offensively with two shots, both on goal, though not finding the back of the net. Max Henderson spent 90 minutes in goal, recording one save against six shots faced. Augustine Feika took two shots during the match, with one shot on target.
The first half commenced with Hamline initiating early offensive pressure, highlighted by several shots from Johanso Camacho and Cris Corrales within the opening minutes. Axel's effort in the 19th minute posed a significant challenge but was saved by Saint Mary's goalkeeper Ryan Horlock.
As the half progressed, Hamline continued to press forward, with Sylvester Doe and Belal Elghorab each coming close to breaking the deadlock. Elghorab's shot struck the woodwork. The first half concluded with the score remaining tied at 0-0, as both defenses held firm.
The second half began with Hamline applying early pressure, as Feika's shot in the 46th minute was saved by Saint Mary's goalkeeper, Horlock. Despite multiple attempts, the Pipers could not capitalize, while Saint Mary's took the lead with Caleb Gilbert scoring in the 62nd minute, assisted by Seth Konik.
Hamline responded tenaciously, and Weah leveled the score at 1-1 in the 79th minute. Both teams continued to press, but neither could break the deadlock as the half concluded with the score tied at 1-1.
Up next, the Pipers host the Falcons of University of Wisconsin - River Falls on Tuesday, September 30 at 4 PM at Pat Paterson Field!
