MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Hamline (3-11-3, 3-4-2) and Augsburg (5-10-3, 2-5-2) skated to a 2–2 tie at Augsburg's home rink. The Pipers capitalized on the power play, scoring both of their goals in the second period, while Augsburg managed a shorthanded goal to level the score.
The period began with Augsburg winning the opening faceoff and quickly establishing momentum. At 8:43, Kyler Kleven scored the first goal of the game for Augsburg, assisted by Cade Stibbe and Nick Catalano, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. The Pipers had several opportunities to equalize, including a power play that started at 1:28, but they were unable to capitalize due to strong defensive play and saves by Augsburg's goalie, Alex Timmons. Despite a flurry of shots in the final minutes, Hamline finished the period trailing by one goal.
Augsburg extended their lead early in the second period with a short-handed goal by Peyton Hanson at 19:37, assisted by Nick Catalano. Hamline responded during a power play at 13:52 when
Brock Carls scored, assisted by
Tristen May-Robinson and
Will Matzke, reducing the score gap to 2-1. Hamline then tied the game at 9:28 with another power-play goal, this time from
Calvin Knight, assisted by
AJ Carls and Matzke. The period ended with both teams locked at 2-2.
The third period between the Pipers and Augsburg opened with Augsburg winning the initial faceoff. Despite starting strong with a power play following a tripping penalty on Hamline's
Jack Whitmore Jr. at 1:14, Augsburg failed to capitalize on the advantage. Hamline's
Tyler Jordan and Matzke were pivotal in blocking shots, keeping Augsburg's attempts at bay. Goaltender
Cade Chapman also made significant saves throughout, including multiple stops on missed shots by Augsburg. The period ended scoreless, resulting in a stalemate with neither team finding the back of the net in the final frame.
The overtime period between Hamline and Augsburg remained scoreless despite several attempts from both sides. Hamline's Charles Levis and May-Robinson each had shots that were saved by Augsburg's Alex Timmons, while Gunnar Williams and Nolan Nenow's efforts for Augsburg were stopped by Chapman. Defensive plays included Grant Dardis blocking a shot from
Nicolas Haviar, and
Jacob Hicks stopping an attempt by Zachary Reim. The period concluded without a goal as both teams' defenses held firm.
The final period between Hamline and Augsburg concluded with a tense shootout after regulation ended 2–2.
Joe Greniuk and
Nicolas Haviar both successfully converted their shootout attempts, while Stibbe matched Greniuk's effort for Augsburg. Hamline secured the victory when May-Robinson converted his attempt, and Chapman stopped Conner Schneider's shot. The shootout ended with Hamline claiming the edge over Augsburg.
Knight scored one goal on the power play and added four shots on goal. Carls tallied a power-play goal and recorded three shots. Matzke contributed two assists and won 17 faceoffs with a 56 percent success rate. Goalie Chapman finished with 34 saves, allowing just two goals.
