WINONA, Minn. — Hamline defeated Saint Mary's (MN) 1-0 on Saturday. The result held through a late defensive stretch from 76:05 to 87:23, when the Pipers withstood seven Saint Mary's (MN) attacking actions without conceding.
Hamline kept the first half scoreless behind
Brandon Cruz Rojas, who made a save in the 26th minute as Saint Mary's (MN) created pressure. Earlier,
Beniam Makonnen recorded the Pipers' first shot in the fourth minute, and the visitors later earned corner kicks at 19:19 and 25:44 before
AJ Jueseah followed with a shot. Hamline added two more corners in quick succession in the 37th minute, giving the visitors four in the half. Saint Mary's (MN) finished with more shot attempts, but the Pipers held the match without a goal through halftime.
Augustine Feika scored off a
Thad Miller assist at 69:35 to give Hamline a 1-0 lead in the second half. Earlier, the Pipers came out with repeated chances, putting shots from
Johanso Camacho,
Finley Reibestein and
Sergio Hernandez-Cano on goal in the first 10 minutes of the half. Saint Mary's (MN) applied pressure around the hour mark, but Cruz Rojas saved a Gabe Le shot at 60:38 and Hamline handled two corner kicks before pushing back with a corner and Makonnen's saved attempt ahead of Feika's goal. After the Pipers went in front, Cruz Rojas made three more saves, including stops in the 83rd and 87th minutes, while Hamline played through a physical closing stretch that included multiple cards and late Saint Mary's (MN) pressure. The Pipers kept Saint Mary's (MN) off the board through the final whistle and finished the match with a 1-0 win.
Feika scored on his only shot and recorded the game-winning goal. Cruz Rojas made five saves over 90 minutes, earned the win and finished with a shutout.
Thad Miller tallied an assist and put his lone shot on goal.
Hamline is 4-4-3 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. Saint Mary's (MN) is 0-9-2 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play.
