Pipers Fall to Gusties 5-1 in Tough Road Match

SAINT PETER, Minn. — Hamline University (4-17-3, 4-9-2) fell to Gustavus Adolphus College (16-7-1, 11-4-0), 5-1, on Friday night. The Pipers' lone goal came on a power play in the third period.

The first period began with a faceoff win by Gustavus Adolphus's Wilmer Svensson. Hamline's Jack Lambert was penalized for slashing at 16:41, giving Gustavus Adolphus a power play, but it did not convert. Gustavus Adolphus opened the scoring at 13:44 with Jack Wineman's even-strength goal, assisted by Jackson McCarthy and Charlie Sandven. Riku Brown extended the lead to 2–0 at 11:27, with assists from McCarthy and Drew Holt. Despite several attempts, Hamline was unable to find the net, ending the period trailing 2–0.

Gustavus Adolphus capitalized on a power-play opportunity at 4:54 in the second period when Sam Rice scored, assisted by Ludvig Mellgren and Svensson, extending its lead to 3–0. Despite several shots from the Pipers, Gustavus Adolphus maintained its defensive pressure, with goaltender Zach Dosan making several key saves. Gustavus Adolphus added an even-strength goal with just 28 seconds remaining in the period, as Kyle Doll scored unassisted to make it 4–0. Hamline struggled to convert during its power-play chance, keeping the visiting team scoreless through two periods.

The third period saw Hamline capitalize on an early power play opportunity when Nicolas Haviar scored at 18:17, assisted by Nikolai Dulak and Calvin Knight, reducing Gustavus Adolphus's lead to 4–1. However, Gustavus Adolphus extended its advantage to 5–1 with a power-play goal by Svensson at 11:37, assisted by Sandven and Hunter Newhouse. A series of penalties later in the period, including a five-minute major for face masks against both teams, did not alter the score, and the game concluded with Gustavus Adolphus maintaining its lead.

Haviar scored once on the power play, converting his only shot. Tyler Jordan excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 66% of his draws. Dulak contributed an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts.

The Pipers will conclude their season at home against the Gusties on Saturday with a scheduled puck drop at 6 PM at TRIA Rink.
