Pipers Fall To Concordia-Moorhead 3-1 in Non-Conference Contest

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Hamline (4-14-3) fell to Concordia College, Moorhead (9-8-2), 3-1, on Wednesday evening. Hamline's lone goal came in the third period, but Concordia-M'head secured the win with two goals in the final frame.

The first period started with Concordia-M'head winning the initial faceoff and maintaining control for much of the early action. The Pipers applied pressure with several shots, including attempts from Jackson Miller and AJ Carls, but Dane Couture stood firm in goal for Concordia-M'head. At 8:11, Blake Johnson capitalized on a power play opportunity, assisted by Ryan Roethke and Caden Triggs, to give Concordia-M'head a 1-0 lead. Despite multiple saves by Hamline's Jake Turek, the period ended with Concordia-M'head holding the advantage.

The second period between Hamline and Concordia-M'head featured strong defensive efforts from both teams, resulting in a scoreless frame. Turek made several key saves, including denying attempts by Jack Hanson and Colten Nestler. Concordia-M'head's Couture was also active, stopping shots from Tyler Jordan and Jonah Mortenson. Hamline successfully killed two penalties, with Edward Gregorin's holding penalty ending without damage. Both teams struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, leading to a stalemate as the period concluded.

Hamline tied it up in the third period at 15:46 when Nicolas Haviar scored at even strength, assisted by Jack Whitmore Jr., marking his third goal of the season. Concordia-M'head responded swiftly, taking the lead again at 8:52 with an even-strength goal by Roethke, assisted by Gavin Waltz. The home team then secured the advantage at 6:44 with an unassisted goal from Joseph Harguindeguy, his 10th of the season. Despite multiple power play opportunities, the Pipers were unable to capitalize, and Concordia-M'head held on for a 3–1 victory.

Haviar scored one goal and took four shots. Whitmore Jr. recorded an assist and added two shots on goal. Mortenson won six faceoffs and finished with a 60 percent faceoff rate. Turek made 25 saves while allowing three goals.

The Pipers will have their home conference series against the Cobbers this Friday and Saturday, February 6th and 7th, starting on Friday with a 7 PM puck drop at TRIA Rink.
