CHICAGO, Ill. --- The Hamline University women's lacrosse team (2-0) concluded their Illinois road trip with the a 14-5 win over Illinois Tech (0-3).
Hamline opened the game strong but faced an immediate response from Illinois Tech.
Ema Rehder got the Pipers on the board first with a
goal assisted by Kayli Starkey, capitalizing on the opening draw and setting the tone. Shortly after, Illinois Tech answered with back-to-back goals from
Antonia Martinez (2) and
Ava Roll, giving the Scarlet Hawks a 3–1 lead. Hamline responded late in the quarter with a burst of offense:
Lauren Moorhouse scored on a feed from
Emma Collins, and
Rehder added two more goals (one assisted by Starkey and another woman-up tally from Moorhouse) to close the quarter. Hamline finished the period on a high note, turning a deficit into a
4–3 advantage after 15 minutes.
Hamline continued to build momentum in the second quarter.
Moorhouse scored unassisted early in the frame to stretch the lead to 5–3. Shortly thereafter,
Collins found the back of the net off a feed from Rehder, giving Hamline a 6–3 cushion going into halftime. The Pipers showcased balanced offensive contributions while tightening up defensively to limit Illinois Tech's chances in the second quarter.
Out of halftime, Hamline dominated possession and capitalized with a flurry of goals.
Reagan Zywicki struck first (woman-up, assisted by Starkey) to start a quick scoring run.
Moorhouse added two more goals, the first unassisted and the second off a feed from Zywicki, and
Rehder added another assisted tally from Starkey to put Hamline well ahead. Illinois Tech managed one response goal from
Martinez in the period, but Hamline's efficient transition play and relentless pressure helped the Pipers take a commanding
12–4 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Illinois Tech got a goal from
Iona Pettigrew early, but Hamline answered back to maintain control.
Zywicki scored unassisted to push the margin out, and
Rehder capped the scoring for Hamline, finishing a strong all-around performance with another goal unassisted. Hamline's offense continued to find open looks while the defense limited Illinois Tech's opportunities down the stretch, closing the season's second game with a
14–5 victory.
The Pipers will have their first home game up next against Augustana (IL) on Saturday, March 7 at 12 PM at Klas Field.
