SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline University women's lacrosse team faced a tough challenge on Saturday morning, falling 19-3 to a potent Colorado College squad at home. Despite a standout defensive effort from goalkeeper
Lola Brouwer, who recorded 17 saves, the Pipers couldn't overcome an early offensive explosion from the visitors.
Colorado College (7-3) took control from the opening whistle, racing out to an 8-1 lead in the first quarter.
Kayli Starkey provided the lone goal for the Pipers in the opening frame, finding the back of the net to keep Hamline on the board.
The visitors continued their momentum through the middle periods, adding nine unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to extend their advantage to 17-1. Hamline's defense, led by
Aoi Suzuki (3 caused turnovers) and
Ema Rehder (2 caused turnovers), battled to disrupt the Tigers' rhythm, but Colorado's transition game proved difficult to contain.
The Pipers showed resilience in the final frame, matching Colorado College with two goals apiece. Starkey notched her second goal of the game, and
Emma Collins added a score late in the fourth quarter off an assist from Starkey to cap the scoring for Hamline.
The Pipers will have their next game at home on Friday, April 3 at 7 PM against Augsburg at Klas Field.
