Crowell Shines With Ranked Singles Win In Team Loss To Ranked Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- The Hamline University men's tennis team faced a challenging conference matchup against No. 16-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on March 28, 2026, at InnerCity Tennis in Minneapolis. Despite a signature win at the top of the singles lineup, the Pipers were unable to overcome the depth of the Gusties, falling by a final score of 6-1.

The match began with Gustavus establishing early control during the doubles session, sweeping all three flights to secure the lone doubles point. Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorff took the top position with a 6-1 victory over Wyatt Crowell and Brendon Sebring. The Gusties followed with a 6-3 win at the second spot and a 6-2 victory at number three to complete the sweep and carry momentum into singles play.

Wyatt Crowell provided the highlight of the afternoon for Hamline at number one singles, continuing his strong season with a gritty three-set victory. After dropping the opening set 6-1 to No. 15 ranked Dominik Knutson, Crowell rallied to win the second set 6-3 and outlasted his opponent in a 10-5 tiebreaker to put the Pipers on the board. Max Gulliford also showcased great resilience at the fourth flight, forcing a third-set tiebreaker before narrowly falling to Noah Hakim in a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 battle.

Gustavus secured the overall victory by claiming the remaining four singles flights in straight sets. Tyler Haddorff and Takura Mhwandagara earned wins at the second and third positions, while Owen Skanse and Aadityaa Juniwal rounded out the scoring with victories at the fifth and sixth spots. Following the result, the Pipers move to 3-9 on the season as they continue their MIAC slate.
