Pipers Show Strong Comeback Despite Narrow Loss

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline University (3-10) narrowly fell to University of Northwestern (7-10) with a final score of 3-4 on Wednesday at the Johnson Tennis Complex. Hamline won singles matches at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 positions.

Hamline fell short in capturing the doubles point against the University of Northwestern. The duo of Matthew George and Max Gulliford secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles over Griffen Jarchow and Jacob Petrick. However, the Pipers were unable to clinch the point as Wyatt Crowell and Brendon Sebring were defeated 6-2 at No. 1 doubles by Carson Haack and Sam Majerus, and Liam Smith and Wesley Saunders fell 7-5 at No. 3 doubles to Zander Peterson and Caleb Swigart.

In singles play, Hamline made a strong comeback, starting with Wyatt Crowell's straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, over Carson Haack. Gulliford contributed significantly at No. 4 singles, delivering a 6-4, 6-3 win against Zander Peterson. Sebring's victory in a tightly contested match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) over Sam Majerus, kept Hamline competitive.

Despite these efforts, the University of Northwestern secured the overall win with victories at No. 2 singles, where Griffen Jarchow defeated Matthew George 6-3, 6-7(6), 1-0 (10-6), at No. 5 singles with Isaac Thomforde's 6-1, 6-0 win over Liam Smith, and at No. 6 singles, where Carsen Kramer overcame Wesley Saunders 6-4, 6-2. The final dual score stood at 4-3 in favor of Northwestern.
