SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline University women's lacrosse team remained perfect on the season, improving to 4-0 with a convincing 19-11 victory over Edgewood University on Sunday afternoon at Klas Field. The Pipers' offense was orchestrated by a historic performance from
Kayli Starkey, who dismantled the Eagles' defense with 13 total points, including a staggering nine assists and four goals. Starkey set two new Hamline Lacrosse records, with most single game assists (9) and single game total points (13).
Hamline wasted no time establishing dominance in the first quarter.
Ema Rehder and
Emma Collins both converted free-position opportunities early to give the Pipers a 2-0 lead. Starkey then began her masterclass in playmaking, assisting on goals by Collins, Rehder, and
Reagan Zywicki to help Hamline carry a 5-2 lead into the second frame.
The momentum continued into the second quarter as the Pipers exploded for six goals. Collins netted her third of the day just minutes in, followed by a goal from
Aoi Suzuki. As Edgewood struggled to contain the Hamline transition game, Starkey and
Lauren Moorhouse began a fruitful connection, combining for goals and assists that pushed the Hamline lead to 11-5 at the halftime break.
Edgewood attempted to claw back into the game in the third, putting together a short scoring run, but Starkey took matters into her own hands. The junior attacker scored three consecutive goals—including a clinical free-position shot—to ensure the Eagles never got within striking distance.
In the final period, the Pipers showed no signs of slowing down. Collins notched her fifth goal of the afternoon on Starkey's ninth assist of the game. Moorhouse and Rehder added late tallies to put the finishing touches on the eight-goal victory.
The Pipers head to Kentucky and Indiana for their Spring Break games this week against Spalding and Franklin!
