Pipers Continue Resilient Match Play In Win Over Roger Williams

ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Hamline University women's tennis team opened its spring break trip in Orlando, Florida, with a narrow 4-3 victory over Roger Williams University at Lake Cane on Monday, March 9. The Pipers secured an early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches.

The Pipers found their rhythm at the second and third doubles positions after dropping the top flight. The duo of Elanna Kohner and Chrissa Muller earned a 6-1 victory at number two, while the pairing of Emily Dreger and Gabi Newton matched that score with a 6-1 win at number three to clinch the doubles point for Hamline.

Singles play was a tightly contested affair as Roger Williams claimed victories at the top three spots to surge ahead in the match. Valentina Abarca defeated Vanessa Pham in a marathon three-set match at number one (0-6, 7-5, 10-7), while Chloe Reyes and Elanna Kohner fell in competitive straight-set battles at the number two and three positions, respectively. However, the Pipers' depth proved to be the difference-maker as they swept the bottom half of the lineup. Chrissa Muller sparked the comeback at number four singles with a gritty 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 win over Megan Bache. Emily Dreger followed with another three-set triumph at the fifth flight, bouncing back from a second-set loss to comeback in the tiebreaker for a 6-2, 6-1, 12-10 victory. Shayla Draper then sealed the team win at number six singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gabrielle Petroniro. With the victory, Hamline improves its season record to 5-3.
