SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline University (9-6) fell to No. 26 ranked Bethel University (14-1) with a final score of 2-5 on Wednesday. Hamline secured singles victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions and won the No. 2 doubles match.
Hamline dropped the doubles point as Bethel secured victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan earned a 6-0 win over
Vanessa Pham and
Chloe Reyes at No. 1 doubles, while Elisabeth Langhus and Payton Douglas defeated
Emily Dreger and
Gabi Newton, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles. The Pipers'
Elanna Kohner and Chrissa Muller managed to capture a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Claire Keller and Zadie Walvatne.
In singles play, Bethel extended its lead with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles. Douglas defeated Pham, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Sullivan posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Reyes at No. 2 singles. Keller secured a 6-4, 6-1 win against Kohner at No. 3 singles.
Hamline responded with a win at No. 4 singles, where Muller defeated Langhus, 6-3, 6-4. However, Bethel clinched the overall match with a win at No. 5 singles as Malia McKinnon triumphed over Dreger, 6-0, 6-1.
In a closely contested match at No. 6 singles,
Shayla Draper of the Pipers emerged victorious in a super tiebreak, defeating Walvatne, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3). Despite Draper's win, the final dual score stood at 5-2 in favor of Bethel.
