SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (3-12) fell to Bethel University (16-2) 1-6 on Friday in a home matchup. The Pipers secured their lone victory in singles play at the No. 3 position.
Bethel secured the doubles point after victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Carter Sheard and Dylan Magistad defeated
Wyatt Crowell and
Brendon Sebring, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. Zach Bengtson and Micah Gustafson earned a 6-0 win over
Liam Smith and
Wesley Saunders at No. 3 doubles. Hamline's
Matthew George and
Max Gulliford managed a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, but it was not enough to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, Bethel extended its lead with wins at multiple positions. At No. 1 singles, Sheard overcame Crowell, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4). Magistad added a point for Bethel by defeating George, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Brendon Sebring took the lone single win for the Pipers over Watson Sheard, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 3 singles.
Gulliford battled hard at No. 4 singles but fell to Zack Chaffey, 6-4, 7-6(4). Kade Bishop's 6-2, 6-1 win over Smith at No. 5 singles and Gustafson's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Saunders at No. 6 singles sealed the final 6-1 dual match score in favor of Bethel.
