Pipers Fall In Tough Battle With UW-La Crosse In Final Regular Season Match Up

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Hamline University Pipers fell to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 17–7 on Saturday at Klas Field. Despite the loss, the Pipers managed to convert a player-up goal and secure 11 draw controls.

The game began with the Pipers' Lauren Moorhouse securing the draw control, setting the stage for an early exchange of possessions and turnovers. At 9:57, Emma Collins opened the scoring for Hamline with an assist from Reagan Zywicki, followed by Emma Halweg adding another goal at 8:33, giving the Pipers a 2-0 lead. The Eagles responded with a timeout and then found the net at 7:30 with a goal by Evie Brilz, assisted by Ava Schiltz. Brilz scored again for the Eagles at 1:14, this time assisted by Emily Wrobbel, leveling the score at 2–2 by the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles capitalized on a player-up opportunity early in the second quarter with Megan Maloney scoring a free position goal at 14:33, setting the tone for a strong offensive showing. Maloney added another goal at 9:20, and the Eagles extended their lead with contributions from Evie Brilz and Adison Brown, assisted by Emily Wrobbel. Hamline responded with a free position goal by Ema Rehder at 5:51, and later, Kayli Starkey scored with an assist from Emma Collins during a player-up situation at 2:56. Despite Hamline's efforts, the Eagles maintained a 7–4 lead by the end of the quarter, driven by Ava Schiltz's goal and consistent draw control victories.

The Pipers opened the third quarter with Reagan Zywicki scoring at 14:13, assisted by Lauren Moorhouse, narrowing the gap. The Eagles quickly responded with a goal by Ava Schiltz at 13:37, assisted by Megan Maloney. Later, Megan Maloney extended the Eagles' lead with a player-up goal from a free position shot at 10:59. Ema Rehder kept the Pipers in contention with a goal at 10:03, assisted by Kayli Starkey. The Eagles concluded the quarter with a goal by Evie Brilz at 3:38, assisted by Ava Schiltz, to end the quarter leading 10–6.

Aoi Suzuki of Hamline opened the fourth quarter with a goal from a free position shot at 14:25, bringing the score to 10–7. However, the Eagles responded with a dominant scoring run. Ava Schiltz made a key impact, scoring twice and securing multiple draw controls, contributing significantly to the team's offensive momentum. Megan Maloney added a free position goal at 9:25, following a timeout by the Pipers. The Eagles continued to capitalize on Hamline's caused turnovers, with Tori Katzenmeyer scoring twice in the final minutes, leading the Eagles to a decisive 17–7 victory.
