MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- The Hamline University women's tennis team (7-5, 2-3 MIAC) was narrowly defeated by Macalester College (6-5, 1-2 MIAC) 4-3 on Wednesday at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Pipers secured singles victories at the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.
Macalester secured the doubles point by taking victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Savannah Haugen and Elizabeth Trevathan defeated
Vanessa Pham and
Chloe Reyes, 6-2, on court one, while Darrian Streater and Isabella Tamburrino overcame
Elanna Kohner and Chrissa Muller, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles. Hamline's
Emily Dreger and
Gabi Newton recorded a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Berkeley Cox and Greta Laurel.
In singles,
Shayla Draper provided an early point for Hamline, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Berkeley Cox at No. 6 singles. Macalester responded as Savannah Haugen triumphed over
Vanessa Pham, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, followed by Darrian Streater's 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chrissa Muller at No. 4 singles, pushing Macalester's lead further.
Elanna Kohner kept the Pipers in contention with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Isabella Tamburrino at No. 3 singles. However, Macalester clinched the match as Elizabeth Trevathan defeated
Chloe Reyes, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7), at No. 2 singles.
Emily Dreger added a final point for Hamline by winning 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) against Greta Laurel at No. 5 singles, concluding the match with a final score of 4-3 in favor of Macalester.
