ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline University (8-5) secured a decisive 6-1 victory over University of Northwestern (6-12) on Wednesday at the Johnson Tennis Complex. The Pipers dominated doubles play, winning all three matches, and clinched five out of six singles matches.
Hamline secured the doubles point decisively with wins on all three courts.
Elanna Kohner and Chrissa Muller opened with a 6-3 victory over Rein Hayashi and Sarah Langridge at No. 1 doubles.
Vanessa Pham and
Chloe Reyes followed up with a 6-4 win against Aby Ross and Anne Clarke at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles,
Emily Dreger and
Gabi Newton completed the sweep with a 6-0 result over Hannah Hyttsten and Macie Ruddy.
In singles play,
Vanessa Pham extended Hamline's lead with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, defeating Rein Hayashi 7-5, 6-4. Kohner added another point at No. 3 singles, besting Aby Ross 6-1, 6-0. Muller clinched the match for the Pipers at No. 4 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Hannah Hyttsten.
Hamline continued its dominant performance as Dreger triumphed at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Anne Clarke, and
Shayla Draper delivered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Abby Cimenski at No. 6 singles. University of Northwestern's only singles win came from Sarah Langridge at No. 2 singles, who defeated
Chloe Reyes 7-5, 6-2. The final score was 6-1 in favor of Hamline University.
