RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Hamline lost to UW-River Falls 1-0 on Wednesday. The Pipers put five of their seven shots on goal and held UW-River Falls to four shots on frame, but were held scoreless.
Hamline absorbed an early UW-River Falls push, with shots from Maddie Finstad, Inga Julstrom and Leah Hultman around a 12:19 corner before
Sarah Russell saved Nora Arneson's attempt at 14:52 to keep it 0-0. The Pipers created their first chances after that, as
Ellie Nhean had a shot saved at 18:10 and
Elysse Tanaka had two attempts in the 22nd minute, including one stopped by Courtney Bain. UW-River Falls added corners at 26:46 and 29:25 and an Abby Drontle shot that went high, but Hamline generated the late pressure with a
Thelma Gomez shot saved at 34:36, a corner at 43:58 and a
Josie Carlson shot saved at 44:43 before the first half ended 0-0.
Russell kept the match scoreless through UW-River Falls' early pressure, saving shots by Nora Arneson at 45:29 and Maddie Finstad at 46:57 around a corner kick. Hamline generated looks from Nhean at 48:29 and
Reese Keiffer at 52:34, with Courtney Bain saving Keiffer's attempt, but UW-River Falls broke through at 58:34 when Emery Bigler scored off an assist from Finstad for a 1-0 lead. The Pipers earned a corner kick at 79:17, UW-River Falls had one more shot from Bigler at 82:01, and the 1-0 score held through the end of the second half.
Russell played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves. Nhean shared the team high with two shots, including one on goal. Tanaka also finished with two shots and put one attempt on frame.
Hamline is 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play. UW-River Falls is 5-1-1 overall.
