ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline lost to St. Scholastica 1-0 on Tuesday. The Pipers generated 10 second-half shots and nine corners, including a late stretch of sustained pressure, but could not find the net.
The Pipers created the first three shots of the first half, starting with
Reese Keiffer's attempt saved by Chloe Patrick at 1:47 before
Athena Lopez missed right at 3:29 and Keiffer added another shot at 5:50. St. Scholastica began to generate chances later, with Bailey Coole sending a shot left at 12:38 and having another saved by
Sharis Garcia at 16:17 before Garcia stopped Anna Manion's try at 31:48. Ella Backstrom scored at 42:01 to put St. Scholastica ahead 1-0, and that score held through halftime.
With the Pipers trailing 1-0, the second half opened with a corner at 45:28 before St. Scholastica generated two shots, including Zara McBroom's effort saved by
Sienna Parsons at 54:22. The Pipers built pressure after that with corners at 58:33 and 62:35 around shots from
Ellie Nhean and
Thelma Gomez, then forced Chloe Patrick into saves on
Addyson Barrett at 73:05 and 74:19 and Nhean at 74:38. The Pipers added three straight corners from 80:56 to 81:59 and another at 84:54, with
Neva Woodson's ensuing shot saved by Patrick at 85:10. At 90:00, the Pipers had a corner and three saved attempts from Woodson,
Elysse Tanaka and Barrett, but St. Scholastica kept the Pipers off the board to close out the 1-0 final.
Barrett put all three of her shots on goal, leading the Pipers in shots on goal and sharing the team lead in attempts. Nhean also recorded three shots, placing one on frame.
Sharis Garcia made two saves in 41:59 as the starter, while Parsons added one save and did not allow a goal over 48:01.
The Pipers are 4-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play. St. Scholastica is 4-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play.
