ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline defeated Bethany Lutheran 4-0 Saturday at Paterson Field. The Pipers scored two goals in each half while holding Bethany Lutheran to one shot in each half. The Pipers finished with a 21-2 advantage in shots, including 10-1 in shots on goal, and recorded a shutout with one save.
Danna Garcia put the Pipers in front at 1:14, finishing
Alexis Geary's assist for a 1-0 lead, and the Pipers kept pressure on with attempts from
Addyson Barrett,
Athena Lopez and Garcia around a corner kick over the next several minutes. After another Barrett shot was saved in the 15th minute,
Addy Ehler made it 2-0 at 24:24 from
Sonnie Luciano's assist. Bethany Lutheran had its clearest listed chance at 27:11, but
Sharis Garcia saved Payton Anderson's shot, and the Pipers later added two corner kicks with shots from
Addison Criner and
Autumn Larsen before the half ended.
The Pipers opened the second half with sustained pressure, taking an
Ellie Nhean shot at 45:51 and a corner kick five seconds later before Geary scored at 48:05 to make it 3-0. The pressure continued with another corner, shots from Nhean, Barrett and
Elysse Tanaka, and Barrett scored off Nhean's assist at 55:30 to push the lead to 4-0. Bethany Lutheran's Payton Anderson hit the left woodwork at 64:36, but the Pipers kept generating chances through
Lorna Heil,
Maya Gonzalez, Luciano,
Mya Rice and
Sharleen Garcia, with Arayah Baker making multiple saves. Bethany Lutheran earned three late corner kicks, including two in the final 1:17, but the Pipers finished off the 4-0 win.
Geary scored and added an assist, finishing with three points on two shots.
Danna Garcia scored the game-winning goal and put both of her shots on goal. Barrett scored while leading the Pipers with four shots, including three on goal. Ehler scored on her lone shot attempt.
The Pipers are 2-0-0 overall. Bethany Lutheran is 0-1-0 overall.
