ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline won 3-2 over Northwestern-St. Paul on Tuesday at Pat Paterson Field.
William Ferrufino scored at 84:34 off an assist from
Johanso Camacho, moving the Pipers from a 2-2 tie to a 3-2 lead. Hamline finished with a 24-6 advantage in shots, including 12-3 in shots on goal, and generated 12 corner kicks to Northwestern-St. Paul's one.
The Pipers built a 2-0 lead in the opening 13 minutes, but Northwestern-St. Paul answered through Joe Nyagaka and Daniel DeWalt to send the match to halftime tied 2-2. Hamline generated early pressure with shots from
AJ Jueseah and
Beniam Makonnen forcing saves before
Titus Lee scored at 5:54 off Camacho's assist. The attack kept creating chances, including multiple corners and additional shots, and
Alan Ruiz finished
Faith Gnadji's setup at 12:48 to make it 2-0. After Northwestern-St. Paul pulled even, Hamline still created looks through
Tony Wani and
Anthony Porter, while the closing stretch included a series of fouls from both sides before the half ended level.
Ferrufino scored off a Camacho assist at 84:34 to put the Pipers ahead 3-2, finishing a second half in which Hamline created most of the late pressure. Earlier, the Pipers played through a 2-2 score by earning four corners between 51:30 and 57:41, with Lee putting shots wide in the 48th and 59th minutes. Northwestern-St. Paul had a brief push with a corner and a shot high around the 69th minute, but Hamline answered with five shots and two more corners from 73:13 to 82:31, including two Ferrufino attempts saved by Isaac Johnson. The Pipers added a
Thad Miller shot and another corner after the go-ahead goal, then saw out the second half to close a 3-2 win.
Ferrufino scored the game-winning goal and put all three of his shots on goal. Camacho recorded a team-high two assists and added two shots, including one on goal. Lee scored and finished with three shots. Ruiz converted his lone shot attempt for a goal.
Hamline is 1-1-1 overall. Northwestern-St. Paul is 1-2-0 overall.
