Leadership takes many forms. For HU cross country runner Kyle Mehrhof, it meant (in part) showing his younger teammates how to persevere on a blistering hot day. 

Running in humid conditions at the Augsburg Invitational last Saturday, the Coon Rapids, Minn. native was the top Piper runner across the finish line, coming in 41st in a 345 runner field that included 24 who didn't finish. His time for the 8K trek was 29:08.3.

Mehrhof and the Pipers weren't too concerned with a team score. Their eye is on a bigger prize in a month when the weather will be cooler and the stakes higher -- namely, the MIAC Championship Meet at St. Olaf. 

For now, though, Mehrhof has given his younger teammates something to think about and improve upon. The next chance for that comes September 28 in a meet at Wis-Eau Claire.
