Steve DeBus will go into the holidays with this comforting thought -- his team is developing a variety of scoring sources.
Mackenzie McCormack and Haleigh Bolton recorded their first tallies of the season and
Lizzy Schieldt added her second in a 5-3 loss to Bethel at Warner Coliseum Saturday. The Pipers head into the holiday break with a 2-7-1 mark, 0-5-1 in the MIAC.
The Royals, who outshot the Pipers 25-18 for the game, held hotshooting
Jordan Verleye off the scoresheet.
So it was rewarding to see others pick up the pace. Schieldt was the first to register, connecting on a power play goal in the second period that cut a 2-0 BU lead in half. Unfortunately, the Royals scored on a power play themselves and added another goal the second a HU penalty ended to make it 4-1 after two.
It was 5-1 when McCormack took a feed from Bolton and blasted her first goal of her college career home at 5:12 of the final period. Six minutes later, Bolton picked up the puck out of a scramble and made it 5-3. However, that was close as HU could get.
Sam Stark had 20 saves in goal for HU, which is off until January 11 when they meet Concordia (WI) in a non-conference game at Warner Coliseum.
Chelsea Koehn had six of the Pipers' 18 shots on goal.
