Box Score It wasn't easy at all. Hamline's women's hockey team made undefeated Gustavus work long and hard before finally giving way, 3-1, Friday night in St. Peter.
Sarah Schneekloth recorded 47 saves and
Corinne Henning (pictured) had the tally for the Pipers (5-9-4, 2-7-2 MIAC).
As was the case last year, HU stayed with the highpowered Gusties stride for stride for a long time. After surrendering a first minute goal, Henning responded with a solo tally at 2:05 to even matters at 1.
With Schneekloth frustrating the Gusties at many turns, it stayed that way until shortly after the midway point of the game when Lindsey Hjelm broke the tie. Hjelm procured another one in the third period and that was enough for the win. HU's attempt for a comeback was bogged down by three third period penalties.
Despite the fact that leading scorer
Chelsea Koehn didn't play due to injury, Hamline did manage 11 shots on goal -- more than they had last year in St. Peter.
The teams meet again Saturday, Feb. 2 at Warner Coliseum. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
