Box Score The rust was evident for the Hamline baseball team. Playing for the first time in 22 days, the Pipers didn't get much offense going in dropping 3-1 and 13-5 games at Gustavus Adolphus Friday afternoon.
Hamline fell to13-7 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC.
In the opener, pitcher
Matt Eickman kept the Gusties in check until the sixth inning when a two RBI double broke a 1-1 tie. HU had scored first in the third inning when
Andy Sammon walked, moved to second on an error and eventually scored on
Jordan Rubbelke's bunt single.
GAC, however, tied the game in the bottom of the inning and held the Pipers to just two hits (singles by Sammon) the rest of the way.
Game 2 started better as
Mark Radmacher lined a two RBI homer in the top of the first inning. But the Gusties scored the next 13 runs to salt the game away. The Pipers did mange with Radmacher,
Harley Thompson and
Chris Zeller leading the way with two each. But they couldn't muster any more runs until getting three in the top of the seventh.
The Pipers will finally get to play on their home field -- Midway Stadium -- this weekend when they host St. John's at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Macalester at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
