Box Score 2 Hamline's baseball team lost a tough doubleheader to Augsburg on a chilly Thursday at Parade Stadium. In the opener,
Casey Benford pitched well but the Pipers managed just five hits in a 3-1 loss. In the second game, HU jumped to a 12-1 lead but the Auggies rallied for a 13-12 decision.
As a result, Hamline dropped to 7-7 in the MIAC, 20-10 overall.
In the opener. the Pipers grabbed a third inning lead when
Evan Cordell singled, moved to second on
Cam Smith's sacrifice bunt, to third on a grounder and scored on a wild pitch. But the Auggies rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the fourth to clinch the game.
In the nightcap, HU came out blazing.
Dan Ellefson's two-RBI single keyed a five-run first inning ourburst for an early lead.. Later,
Joe Rubbelke and
Mark Radmacher knocked in two runs each as Hamline advanced to a 12-1 lead in the fifth inning. But the Auggies rallied for 10 runs in the fifth inning to get close and then scored singletons in the sixth and seventh innings to claim the victory.
Hamline is back in action this Saturday when they play at St. Thomas. The first game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
