It was a chance to measure up against what is traditionally one of the best teams in Division III. And the Hamline's gymnastics team showed they have the potential to be one of the teams to keep an eye on at the end of the year.
Courtney Benson (pictured) took the All-Around title as Hamline finished second to defending NCGA champ UW-Whitewater and defeated conference foe Gustavus Adolphus in a triangular at Walker Field House Sunday.
Benson finished with 37.925 points to lead HU, which totaled 182.275 points for the day, a 2.5 point improvement from their first meet of the year. The Warhawks edged out the Pipers for first place with a 184.600 score with the Gusties checking in at 167.725.
The Pipers won three of the four individual competitions and defeated UWW in the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise events. The Warhawks took the Vault and Bars competition.
Benson captured the Beam crown with a 9.525 score and had a dazzling 9.725 in the Floor Exercise. She was also second in the Vault (9.45) Kambria Blakely edged Benson for the Vault crown with a 9.55 performance. She was second in the Beam (9.40) and Floor Exercise (9.65).
The Pipers also got impressive efforts from Summer Haag (9.225 on the Beam), Erika Degnan (9.225 in the Vault), Emille Giefer (9.025 in the Vault) and Brianna Bridgeford (9.00 in the Floor Exercise).
HU returns to action Friday with a dual meet at UW-Eau Claire.
