Rubbelke Raps Out Four Hits But Pipers Drop Two To GAC

4/26/2014 5:39:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jamie Rubbelke continues to show the MIAC exactly what a good leadoff hitter is supposed to do -- get on base a lot.

The sophomore shortstop had four hits to push her batting average to .426 on the season. But it wasn't enough as the Pipers lost a frustrating doubleheader to Gustavus Adolphus, 2-0 and 7-1, at Meredith Field.

In the opener, HU's Brooke Chapman pitched well but took her first loss of her college career after seven wins. Chapman walked one and fanned five in throwing her third complete game of the season. HU managed just three hits in the game, bringing the tying run to the plate twice.

Hits were not the issue in the second game as Hamline rapped out 11. Rubbelke led the way with three singles and Lauren Turitto added a pair. But HU left the bases loaded three times, stranging 11 for the game. The only Piper run came in the third inning when Chelsea Koehn walked with the bases loaded.

Hamline dropped a game behind St. Benedict for the final playoff spot in the MIAC. HU is 10-8 overall, 16-17-1 overall. The Pipers have four games left all on the road. They are at Concordia (6-27, 1-15 MIAC) Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. pair. The Pipers will wrap up MIAC play Monday at Bethel (20-13, 11-5). The Blazers face St. Catherine (7-23, 5-13) at the Rosemount Dome Sunday and finish MIAC play at Carleton (11-22, 9-9) Tuesday
