Box Score 2 The Hamline softball team ended their season on a high note. Tha Pipers slapped Bethel around for 20 runs and 24 hits in recording 8-0 and 12-7 wins to finish off the 2014 season. HU ends the year 18-17-1 overall and 12-8 in the MIAC. Unfortunately, the latter mark was only good enough for fifth place, percentage points behind fourth place Bethel.
Brooke Chapman capped an outstanding freshman season with her first collegiate shutout -- a three-hitter -- in the opener. She fanned four and finishes her first year in the league with an 8-1 won-loss record and a snappy 2.89 ERA. Chapman also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4
. Lauren Turitto and
Cecily Abbadessa homered for HU, which scored all their runs in the final three innings.
HU made the last game of the year one to remember.
BU jumped to a 4-1 first inning lead only to see the Pipers get one in the second inning and explode for eight in the third frame.
Jamie Rubbelke went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored three runs to finish the season with a team-leading .418 batting average.
Chelsea Koehn slammed a pair of home runs to finish with a team high six and Abbadessa added another. Chapman also went 1-for-2 and ended the season with a .321 average.
Sarah DeMars, the second of three HU pitchers used, thrrew six innings, allowing two runs on four hits to get the win. The freshman ended the season with a 5-4 won-loss record.
Brittney Bredemus went 3-for-4 in her final game of her Hamline career.
It is the second straight season HU has finished over .500.
