Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 It wasn't the amount of hits that led to Hamline's 8-3, 7-2 losses to St. Thomas Monday at Siebert Field. It was when they got the hits that made the difference.
Jacob Picht, Chris Zeller, Harley Thompson, Collin Olstad (pictured) and
Matt Connell all recorded multi hit games against UST. But HU left 18 runners on base in the two games to drop under .500 at 6-7 on the season, 0-3 in the MIAC.
In the first game, HU rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to get within a run. Olstad doubled home a second inning run and Hu scored in the third on a wild pitch. But the Tommies pushed back for the game's next five runs to take the game. Hamline left the bases loaded twice, stranding 11 runners.
In the nightcap, UST broke through first with two fourth inning tallies. Connell, who was the starting pitcher, evened affairs with a two run homer in the fifth inning. However, an untimely error in the bottom of the inning led to four unearned runs that broke the game open. HU received solid relief work from
Ryan Gick and
Rob Miller but the Pipers couldn't cash in for more runs. Picht had three singles to leads the seven hit attack.
The Pipers' doubleheader with Augsburg that was scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at Midway Stadium has been pushed back to Thursday, April 10. The non-conference pair with UM-Morris that had been set for that way is postponed. HU will travel to Concordia on Saturday, April 12. The next day, Hamline will host Gustavus Adolphus in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. This is the makeup for the March 29 games that were postponed due to cold weather.
