Can't get into the Minnesota Twins' home opener at Target Field today? 

We have a very nice substitute idea for you. And it won't cost you a thin dime.

Hamline's baseball team takes on neighbor St. Thomas at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota campus. The doubleheader, which is free of charge, starts at 2:30 p.m. A reminder that, under MIAC rules, the first game is a seven-inning affair and the second game will go nine innings.

The Pipers are 0-1 in MIAC play with an overall mark of 6-5. The Tommies are 1-0 in conference action, 10-5 overall. 

Although the weather forecast is for basically dry, warmer weather this week, field conditions has caused HU head coach Jim Weyandt (pictured in middle) to rework his schedule this week.  HU was slated to face Augsburg Tuesday, April 8 at Midway Stadium. But the field isn't quite ready for play. So that doubleheader has been moved to Thursday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. the pair that had been scheduled that day with UM-Morris will be postponed but Weyandt is hopeful to find another date. 

On Saturday, April 12, the Pipers will travel to Moorhead to face Concordia in a pair starting at 1:00 p.m. They will then turn around and get back on the field at Midway on Sunday, April 13 against Gustavus Adolphus in a doubleheader that will start at 1:00 p.m. This is a makeup of the March 29 postponement. 

If all goes well -- and the forecast does look promising -- the Pipers will be on track for all their conference games except for the game against St. Mary's that was called because of darkness. That game will be finished April 24 at Midway and will be followed by a non-conference game.
