Box Score Hamline's women's hockey team got the first and last word in their rematch at Concordia (WI) Saturday. Unfortunately, the Falcons' middle words were a little too much to handle.Â
Megan Lawry opened the scoring andÂ
Jessica Goldberg closed it for the Pipers in a 3-2 loss in Mequon, WI. The Falcons bunched a pair of goals 13 seconds apart in a three goal first period to earn the win and drop Hamline to 0-1-1 for the weekend.Â
Lawry got loose at the left side of the net to end a three-way play with
Jena Kosley and Goldberg with 5:0 gone in the game.Â
CU, however, got that goal bck added two more before the period to take the lead for good. It was a frustrating to end to a period where Hamline held a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. The Pipers held a 10-7 edge in the scoreless second frame. They kept attacking, pulling GKÂ
Mary Shefveland with 1:55 remaining in the game. It finally paid off when Goldberg scored for the second game with 7.4 seconds on the clock. Lawry andÂ
Chelsea Koehn (pictured) drew the assists on the play.Â
But that was close as HU could get. Shefveland had 14 saves in the Piper net.
The Pipers now return to St. Paul to ready for their home opener against UW-River Falls. Game time at Oscar Johnson Arena is 7:00 p.m.
