Box Score Thanks to, among others,
Dana Almquist (pictured) and
Jessica Cole, the HU women's hockey team now has one for the thumb. Almquist's goal with 6:04 left in the third period broke a 1-all tie and was the difference as the Pipers won their fourth game in a row and extended their unbeaten streak to five straight with a 2-1 win at UW-Eau Claire Tuesday night.
Cole stopped 26 shots in goal -- including one on Holly Turnbull with 16 seconds remaining -- to preserve the win and push the Pipers to 4-2-2 overall. The five-game unbeaten streak is the longest since a school record six gamer at the end of the 2006-07 season.Â
Chelsea Koehn converted a pass fromÂ
Jena Kosley to give the Pipers a first period lead with a power play goal, her third tally in her last four games. The Blugolds knotted matters in the second period and it stayed that way until Almquist connected with her second of the season through traffic.Â
There were some anxious moments at the end. First, HU had to kill off a penalty toÂ
Lindsey Jackman with 3:22 left on the clock. Then UWEC pulled their goalie and swarmed on Otto, who stopped Turnbull from point blank range. Cole, a sophomore, has been the goalie of record for all five games in the current streak. She sports an 0.96 GAA and a .964 save percentage in nearly 250 minutes playing time.Â
HU is off until December 4 when they face St. Thomas at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
