Magill Scores Pair As W Hockey Heads To Break On Winning Note

Box Score Jenny Magill's main job is to keep players away from the Hamline net. She did that very well again on Saturday -- and added an extra wrinkle with a pair of goals as the Piper women's hockey team went into the holiday break with a winning record for the first time in eight years with a 3-0 decision over Finlandia Saturday at Oscar Johnson Arena.

With several alums sitting in the stands, HU outshot the Lions, 50-11 to improve to 5-4-2 overall. The last time HU went into the holiday break was in 2007-08. They were 6-5-1 at the time. They went to go 14-9-3 overall and advance to the MIAC playoffs.

Britni DelCastillo broke a scoreless tie 3:22 into the second period with her second goal of the season. It stayed that way until Magill connected on her first goal at 6:27 of the final frame. The senior defender from Hill-Murray put a lid on the matter with an empty netter in the final minute of play.  Magill (pictured), who had scored just four goals in three previous season, had the first two goal game of her college career.

Jessica Cole hanlded all 11 shots sent her way for her second shutout of the season. The sophomore lowered her goals-against average to 1.54 and upped her save percentage to .944 with the win.

Hamline is idle until January 6 when they will face St. Catherine in a non-conference game at Drake Arena.
