Box Score It was a home finale to remember for Jordan Verleye and Mary Shefveland

Verleye broke up a tie game with 5:53 remaining and Shefveland stopped a career high 48 shots as Hamline's women's hockey team closed out the Oscar Johnson portion of their schedule with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's Friday night.

The Pipers won their third straight home game and improved to 6-16-2 with the win.

But it wasn't easy.

The Cardinals, trying to hold on to the fifth and final playoff spot, pressured Shefveland all night. They fired 16 shots at the junior in each of the first two periods. They pelted 18 shots on goal in the third but Shefveland (pictured) stayed firm all night.

The Pipers grabbed the early lead when Kelsey Rafferty broke free for her 11th goal of the year at 11:50. It marked the fifth game in a row that Raffery had found the net. Haleigh Bolton converted a Verleye feed at 8:10 of the second to make it 2-0. SMU, however, scored midway in the second and at 9:49 of the third to knot the score at 2.

Verleye then broke the tie when she picked up the rebound of a Jenny Magill shot and deposited it in the net for her 10th goal of the season.

The Pipers finish the season at St. Mary's Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
