It was tough sledding up north for the Hamline women's tennis team. The Pipers lost their season opener to St. Scholastica, 9-0, in Virginia, Minn.
Shamara Duwearatchi (pictured) came the closest to pulling off a win at No. 3 singles.
After splitting a pair of 6-3 sets, the senior lost the third set 11-9.
Maggie Gibson also put up a stiff fight at No. 4 singles. Gibson lost the first set 1-6 but came back for a 6-4 decision to force a third battle. She dropped that one 10-6.
The Pipers open MIAC play February 12 against Carleton (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) in Lakeville.
