Box Score 2 It was another day that saw an outstanding pitching performance for the Hamline softballers. HU roared past St. Scholastica, 8-0, as
Sarah DeMars (pictured) tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener of two games played in Rochester, Minn. March 1. UW-La Crosse grabbed an early lead and held on for a 7-5 win in the nightcap to even the Pipers' early season record at 2-2.
DeMars dominated the Saints, walking none and fanning three in the six inning win.
Mary-Clare Couillard went 3-4 with a pair of RBI to pace the HU offense.
Jamie Rubbelke whacked a pair of doubles and
Amanda Orrell also had a pair of hits and two RBI.
Chelsea Koehn put the finishing touches on with a three RBI single in the sixth inning.
In the second game, Casey Anderson went 3-3 with two RBI at the plate to finish a 6-for-9 weekend. But she was roughed up for 10 hits and four earned runs on the mound to take the pitching loss. Back-to-back RBI singles by Orrell (who had hits in all four games this weekend) and Anderson in the third inning gave HU a 3-2 lead. UWL scored four times in the fifth inning to regain the lead and held on from there.
The Pipers are off until mid-March when they travel to California for eight games. The first games will be March 17 at Whittier.
