4/25/2015 7:11:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On a sunny Saturday, Hamline's baseball team battered first place Bethel's pitching for 23 runs and 27 hits in a doubleheader split at Hargis Park. The Pipers won a 13-8 second game after dropping the opener, 11-10.

Collin Olstad had four hits and drove in five runs in the second game to spearhead the HU offense. Joe Setrum recorded six RBI. Chris Zeller (three hits in game 1) and Matt Connell (four hits, three RBI for the day) also befuddled the Royals' pitching all day as HU improved to 20-14 overall. They stand sixth in MIAC play at 8-8.

The top of the first inning of the first game set the tone for the day. Andy Sammon drove in a pair of runs with a single and Setrum bashed a three-run homer as Hamline grabbed an early 6-0 lead. BU pecked away, grabbing an 8-6 lead after five. Connell's two RBI triple in the sixth tied the game at 8 but the Royals countered with a solo run to regain the lead. In the seventh, Zeller and Sammon banged one out singles. Setrum doubled to score Zeller and Tyler Summers followed with a single that plated Sammon. The Royals, however, came back for two in the bottom of the inning to get the win.

Connell homered in the top of the first inning of the second game for an early 1-0 lead. The Royals matched that in the bottom of the inning. Olstad then hit a grand slam homer in the second to cap a five run inning that put HU ahead for good. Setrum's two RBI single paced a four run third and the Pipers stayed solidly ahead of the Royals the rest of the way.

HU will need to get their hitting shoes on again Sunday when they travel to Mankato to face Bethany Lutheran in a doubloeheader that is slated for a 1;00 p.m. start.
