Box Score It was the type of moment that could change the direction of a game. Nursing a 2-1 lead over Bethel as the third period started Saturday night at Oscar Johnson, the Pipers knew they were about to be tested because they would be a player short for the first 1:33. But the situation got dicier when the Pipers were assessed a two minute delay of game to start the period.Â
Hamline, however, kept the Royals without a shot on goal during the extended player advantage. They opened the offensive spigots for three goals in their own right to claim a 5-1 victory -- the first women's puck win over the Royals in seven years.Â
Jena Kosley had the hot stick with two goals and an assist. HU also got goals from Jenny Magill, Jessica Goldberg and Jaci Reinke as part of a 42-shot explosion that improved the overall record to 8-9-2. HU is 5-6-1 in MIAC play. That is the most conference victories by a HU women's puck team since the 2006-07 season and places them in a tie for seventh place with St. Benedict. But HU is a mere four points away from fifth place Gustavus -- the team they will face in the final series of the year.Â
Magill's second goal in as many games gave HU a 1-0 lead after one period. BU tied it in the second at 2:57. Kosley untied it for good at 5:28 and it stayed that way until Goldberg found the net at 7:45 of the final period. Reinke connected 48 seconds later and Kosley's second of the night finished matters off.Â
Jessica Cole had 27 saves in goal in 56 minutes of action. Molly Dionne handled two shots in the final four minutes.Â
HU faces Augsburg (7-3-2 in MIAC play, tied for second place) next weekend in a two game series. The teams tangle at Oscar Johnson on Friday, February 5 with a return engagement the next night at Augsburg Arena in Minneapolis.
