Box Score For 58 minutes, it looked like the Hamline women's hockey team was about to spring the biggest surprise of the young season. The Pipers, who lost to Wis-River Falls 8-0 a year ago, led the undefeated Falcons by a 2-1 margin in Hunt Arena.
However, the nation's No. 2 team rallied for two goals in a 24-second span and dealt the Pipers a 3-2 setback.
Brede Postier gave Hamline the early edge, converting a
Jena Kosley pass for a goal midway in the first period. The Falcons tied matters early in the second frame and the 1-1 deadlock extended into the third period.
Sadie Baker's unassisted effort 100 seconds into that period pushed Hamline back ahead. The lead lasted until 18:21 when WRF's Carly Moran evened the score at 2. Dani Kocina untied it at 18:45 and Hamline was unable to get the equalizer.
Annie Juergens had another solid game in goal with 33 saves. The decision snapped a three-game winning streak for Hamline, which is now a 4-2 overall.
They stand 2-0 in the MIAC for the first time ever -- a figure that will get tested this weekend when HU treks to St. Cloud Friday to face St. Benedict. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The teams repair to Oscar Johnson Arena the next afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. rematch.
