Lilli Denison and
Maddie Muotka earned similar singles' wins for the Hamline women's tennis team in a 7-2 loss to St. Benedict Thursday night. Denison, playing No. 4 singles, shrugged off a 6-3 first set setback for a 6-1 win in the second set and then rolled to a 10-2 win in the tiebreaker. Muotka continued her impressive freshman year by shaking off a 7-5 first set loss for a 6-1 win and then a 10-6 triumph in the tiebreaker.
The Pipers dropped the other singles matches in straight sets.
But they were harder to handle in doubles. Muotka and Jordan Danielson lost at No. 1 by 8-5; Elizabeth Hughes and Maggie Gibson fell at No. 2 by 8-4 and the pairing of Denison and Natalie Pieterick put up a stiff fight at No. 3 in an 8-6 loss.
